Join our Garden
Please consider signing up for a plot at the Ballard P-Patch! Becoming a member of the Ballard P-Patch community is very rewarding. We do lots of things besides just garden our plots. We have a "Growing for Giving" garden team who plants, maintains, and harvests produce that's donated to the Ballard Food Bank. We invite the entire city to our "Art in the Garden" event in July. We assist our mobility-challenged gardeners with "tall boxes" to garden at waist level. We have regularly scheduled work parties and social events. We host school group volunteer programs. And we have a LOT of fun!
Each gardener is required to perform at least eight hours per year of maintenance of the community areas of the garden, actively garden your plot, and maintain the pathways around your plot. If this sounds like something you'd like to be involved in, the city's P-Patch office maintains the wait lists for all of the gardens in the program. You can call the P-Patch office directly at 206-684-0264, or sign up via their website.
Please be sure to sign up for the Ballard P-Patch at 8527 NW 25th Street, as people often get confused with the smaller "Greg's Garden" P-Patch in Ballard on 14th Ave NW at NW 54th, or Thyme Patch, 2855 NW 58th Street. (Hint: you can be on the wait list for more than one garden at a time.)
If you like, send a request to ballardppatch "at" hotmail.com to have your e-mail address added to one of two e-mail lists. The "newsletter" list is written for current gardeners and active wait-listers; you receive a monthly newsletter with news about Ballard P-Patch and upcoming work parties and events. The "garden friends" list only announces special events like barbecues and Art in the Garden. Your e-mail address will not be visible or shared with anyone.
People are typically on the wait list for a year or more for a plot at Ballard. But it's worth the wait, and while you're waiting, you're welcome to participate in the work parties or other garden activities anytime. If you're wanting to get started growing things, you'd be welcome (and encouraged!) to become part of our "Growing for Giving" food bank gardening team.
I'd be glad to meet you at the garden and give you a VIP tour. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. Hope to see you at our garden soon!
